Billy Elliot: An Endearing Performance

If you've never seen Billy Elliot the musical, you're definitely missing out. It's based on the film by the same name and revolves around a young boy in the UK who lives with his father and brother. It's a personal struggle for Billy as he learns to love ballet more than the boxing lessons his father had pushed him into. Throughout the play, his father opposes his dancing talent while his brother eventually supports him. It's a coming of age drama and it is family friendly, although I wouldn't recommend bringing kids under the age of eight. The music was written by Sir Elton John - which means it's pretty darn good. Billy Elliot has been nominated for and won many awards, including Laurence Olivier Awards, ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards. Originally, I saw this show while in New York City for work several years ago. A group of co-workers and I grabbed some Billy Elliot tickets after being give a rave review by our concierge at the hotel - and I'm so glad we went to see it! Now, Billy Elliot is touring the US - if the Billy Elliot schedule is bringing this awesome show to a town near you, you definitely need to check it out! It's not one you want to miss.
