Billy Elliot: An Endearing Performance

If you've never seen Billy Elliot the musical, you're definitely missing out. It's based on the film by the same name and revolves around a young boy in the UK who lives with his father and brother. It's a personal struggle for Billy as he learns to love ballet more than the boxing lessons his father had pushed him into. Throughout the play, his father opposes his dancing talent while his brother eventually supports him. It's a coming of age drama and it is family friendly, although I wouldn't recommend bringing kids under the age of eight. The music was written by Sir Elton John - which means it's pretty darn good. Billy Elliot has been nominated for and won many awards, including Laurence Olivier Awards, ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards. Originally, I saw this show while in New York City for work several years ago. A group of co-workers and I grabbed some Billy Elliot tickets after being give a rave review by our concierge at the hotel - and I'm so glad we went to see it! Now, Billy Elliot is touring the US - if the Billy Elliot schedule is bringing this awesome show to a town near you, you definitely need to check it out! It's not one you want to miss.

Death of a Salesman Tickets

Death of a Salesman is a classic play that's made a comeback over the past couple of years. It was written originally in 1949 by Arthur Miller - who, if you aren't up on playwrights, is a very famous American writer. It won multiple awards in it's day and has been recently brought back to Broadway in the winter of 2012 with a limited run - that is probably going to be extended due to how awesome it is. I'm so excited - my bff recently moved to New York City and I'm going out to visit her - she got us awesome seats to the show. I never would have gotten Death of a Salesman tickets for the fun of it, but my bestie insists that it's all the rage in the city. So of course, I checked the show out and of course, it looks awesome. If you're headed to NYC anytime soon, you should definitely grab some seats to a show! Check out the crowd at the stage door:

Jersey Boys Tour - A Must See

Have you heard of the Jersey Boys musical? If you haven't, then you must be living under a rock. Jersey Boys is one of the hottest shows of the last few years to tour off of Broadway. If you need a point of reference (in terms of how popular the show is), think The Producers from the last decade. Jersey Boys is a musical that centers around the 1960s rock and roll group The Four Seasons. It's so popular that this show won four Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway. It features favorites (from my parents generation, granted, but songs that everyone should know in OUR generation, too!) like "Oh, What a Night", "Short Shorts", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man" and more. Which means this girl is super excited to go check this show out - I just checked the Jersey Boys schedule and it looks like the show is going to be playing in Vegas at the Paris Hotel while I'm there for a bachelorette party - I might need to convince these girls that a little Jersey Boys is much more exciting than anything that The Thunder Down Under might have going on! Might be tough. But I'll try.

Michael Jackson the Immortal Tickets

What's the show that everyone's talking about? The Cirque Du Soleil Michael Jackson show. It's the talk of the town nation! Now I was a little skeptical about this show. But then my sister went to see it and she said it was absolutely fantastic. So of course I had to check it out online - and now I'm looking to buy Cirque Du Soleil Michael Jackson the Immortal Tickets for myself! It's going to be in Nashville in June - which sounds like the perfect little early summer vacay trip, don't you think? A weekend in Nashville checking out tons of awesome musical acts and blues bands followed up by the musical event that people can't seem to get enough of? Yeah, that sounds just about perfect! Don't believe me? Check out this clip of the show for yourself:

Book of Mormon: What's all the fuss about?

A lot of people might be wondering what all the fuss is about this Book of Mormon show. I, for one, had no idea what it was about when I first heard of the show. I mean, yes, I know what the Book of Mormon is. But I can't really imagine an entire musical based around it. Until I checked out some videos about it. And it's all about two Mormon missionaries who go to a third world country where one loses some of his faith in his religion. It seems like it's actually going to be quite the show. And now I'm really happy that I got my hands on some Book of Mormon tickets. Check it out!

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts

Since the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is where the majority of traveling Broadway shows perform, I thought it was interesting when I saw this cool video about how they automate the sets at the Denver Center. It's pretty cool, especially if you're not used to seeing how things happen behind the scenes in Denver Theater productions. Makes me want to go down and take a class to see how it all works live and in-person!

The Addams Family Is Going On Tour

One of the shows that I absolutely can't wait to see next year is The Addams Family. I've only heard awesome things, which means it's going to be a must see. I even saw them on David Letterman, and it looks hilarious. I guess Addams Family tickets are going to be on my birthday list this year! Don't believe me? Check out a little clip below. I believe you'll be hooked and just have to see this show live for yourself too!

The Little Mermaid on Broadway

I have a confession. While I would never put The Little Mermaid on Broadway down as one of my top ten must see shows, I still want to see it. Why? Because I just have to know how they're mobilizing a mermaid on stage. They couldn't have her walking around - it would totally ruin the illusion. But that being said, I'm not so sure that the moterization dohicky that they've got going (see video) is really all that snazzy, either. I mean, Disney has boko bucks and they couldn't make Ariel's tail look a little more realistic? Come on guys...

American Idiot Tickets at the Buell Theater

Were you guys big fans of the band Greenday back in the day? I was a bit, I suppose, but part of me feels like this band was like, part of growing up in our generation. So the fact that they came out with a musical that centralizes around their music actually sounds kind of interesting to go check out, if only to see if it really matches up with the feeling of that time - middle school and high school. Ick. So I picked up a pair of American Idiot tickets for the show on March 10th - and I'm actually pretty pumped. I decided to make a night out of it. I'm dragging my bff from High School along with me - if nothing else we'll go for ice cream afterward and make it the full high school experience, no?

Legally Blonde the Musical - The UPS Man

Yes, you already know that I am a HUGE fan of Legally Blonde the Musical. And I'm sorry for oversharing - or undersharing, if you're as big of a fan as I am - but I watched the movie again this weekend. And fell in love with the musical all over again, even though they are just the teensiest bit different. Therefore: Legally Blonde is on the mind, and we need to check out another clip! Love!

Why I MUST see Beauty and the Beast Live

Growing up, one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME was Beauty and the Beast. To this day, I can recite every single song from the original Disney flick. And the musical, well it looks (and reviews imply...) that it is totally similar to the original. LOVES IT. Therefore: I.must.see.this.musical.in.person. I need to get me some Beauty and the Beast tickets ASAP. Check it out below:

Top Five Shows I NEED to See

I love theater- obviusly - but there are several shows that I haven't seen yet that are on my "theater bucketlist" for the next year. Whether on Broadway or touring, these are my top MUST SEE SHOWS of 2012. Looks like there might be a little travel in my future...

Book of Mormon tickets: I need these. Yesyesyes. This show is coming to Denver next year, and this show is #1 on my bucketlist. Love.

Beauty and the Beast tickets: It's a classic from my childhood - and I've only heard great things about this show. So this one is going to be a traveler - perhaps Broadway this summer?

Mary Poppins tickets: I love the movie, and my nieces adore this show. Perhaps I'll have to take them on a little auntie vacay this year!

Legally Blonde tickets: Ok, I've totally seen this one. On Broadway, even. But seriously, this show is fantastic. I love the sets, the peppy blondes (maybe because I am a peppy blonde? who knows) and the fab music. Need to see it again. And again, and again, and again...

Jersey Boys tickets: And I've seen this one too. But again, it's another "must see". And my momma hasn't seen it, and I just know she'd love it. Which makes me think that maybe I'll have to meet her in a city on the Jersey Boys schedule for a girls weekend...

Travel + Theater = <3. I wish I had more time/money/frequent fliers for it!

Upcoming Denver Theater: Cirque du Soleil Dralion

Hey all of you Cirque du Soleil enthusiasts - did you know that Dralion starts on THURSDAY in Colorado? That's right, Dralion will be at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland from the 2nd thru the 5th. This spectacular Cirque du Soleil show drew it's inspiration from the never ending quest for balance between humans and nature. The name comes from the two main creatures of the show: the dragon, symbolizing the eastern cultures and the lion, symbolizing the western cultures. This acrobatic show depicts how cultures can blend, man and nature can co-exist and balance can be achieved. It's an experience that I certainly will not be missing. Get your hands on some Cirque du Soleil tickets and have a great night on the town!

Book of Mormon Tickets: DPAC System Crash

For those of you excited to check out the Book of Mormon when it comes to the Denver Performing Arts Center, you may have noticed that the DPACs website well, it didn't work so well. Although the organization is denying it, reports are saying that their computer system crashed during the Book of Mormon tickets onsale. The venue states that their system was bogged down, but that it didn't actually crash. Even if this is true, this is a state of the art center that we're talking about. A state of the art venue whose equipment couldn't even handle the traffic to function properly during the onsale of these tickets, leaving numerous fans and patrons incredibly disappointed. After the problems that some of the local sports teams had with this very same issue a few years ago, you would think that this particular venue would have used this to their advantage to install a much higher quality system than they currently run.

Theater Makes My Heart Sing

Yeah, I might sound like an old lady. But theater is my passion, even though I've never acted for a millisecond of my life. Weird? Maybe. But I'll be boasting my passion right here - starting now. For anything theater related going on in Denver, I've got the stuff you're looking for! Add me to your bloglist!
